It’s no secret that the hospitality industry has taken a hit this year. Months of closures followed by increased restrictions and reduced capacity have meant that even though it’s been a staycation-heavy summer, many hotels in the UK still need our custom to get through this difficult time.
Enter Sleepover to Help Turnover, a new initiative launched by the Hospitality Professionals Association (HOSPA) designed to keep the momentum of stays going through the autumn and winter months.
Intended as the travel sector’s answer to the restaurant Eat Out To Help Out scheme, which ran throughout August and September, Sleepover to Help Turnover is a mutually beneficial scheme for both hotel and guest.
Hoteliers offer incentives in the way of discounts or extras – think additional nights, a bottle of wine, free upgrades, complimentary parking or half-price cocktails. In return, they see a steady stream of revenue throughout the challenging current restrictions, such as restaurants and bars closing at 10pm, the rule of 6, and weddings limited to 15 guests.
Samantha Williams, UK Market Owner at Profitroom, a leading SaaS supplier to the hospitality industry that focuses on enhancing hotel revenues, explains on the HOSPA website: ‘In recent weeks we’ve seen extremely encouraging signs of recovery across the industry, especially in coastal resorts and popular tourist destinations such as the Lake District. This has been boosted further by the #EatOutToHelpOut scheme.
‘However, this was focused on eateries – but now we’re hoping to generate a boost for hoteliers too. Many hotels, especially those in city centers, are really struggling – with the latest rules adding further burdens. By supporting #SleepOverToHelpTurnover, members of the public will help hotels carry on as they move into a traditionally quieter period, further aiding them in their recovery and providing a vital boost to the economy.’
A number of establishments have already signed up to offer Sleepover to Help Turnover perks – The Royal Lancaster London is offering a free suite upgrade to anyone who books a deluxe room from Thursday to Sunday until 30 November 2020, while Apex Hotels are offering an exclusive discount of 30 per cent on your booking, plus 25 per cent off dining in their restaurants.
To see the full list, head to the HOSPA website and be sure to reference Sleepover to Help Turnover when you make your reservation. If there’s nothing in your chosen destination just yet, keep the page bookmarked, as it’s likely that more and more hotels will be joining up over the next few weeks.
