The drop in temperatures can only mean one thing: it’s time to up our knitwear game. And we’re not the only ones on the hunt for the perfect cosy cover-ups for the colder months, as one particular cardigan from chic Parisian brand Sézane has racked up an impressive waiting list after selling out almost instantly online.
30,000 people joined the virtual queue for the Sézane Barry jumper when it first arrived in November last year, and now that it’s been restocked the reaction has been just as strong, with just a few sizes remaining in each of the various colours.
At £90, it’s not the most affordable cardi on the market, but the piece marks a shift towards a consumer investment in quality – it’s a classic oversized fit with long sleeves that you’ll pull back out of your wardrobe year after year. Plus, Sézane say that it can be styled back-to-front, with the button detail looking just as elegant the other way around.
Available in sizes XS to XL in a rainbow of shades including light marl grey, mint green, blood orange and lemonade (a warm, sherberty yellow), the Barry jumper has become a staple Sézane piece in the fashion world – so it’s little surprise that thousands of shoppers are desperate to bag one for themselves.
Founded in 2013 by Morgane Sézalory, Sézane is France’s original digital-first fashion label, and opened its first physical store in West London earlier this year. It’s become a go-to label for cool clothing a mid-range price point, with nothing costing more than £200.
‘I want to spread the French charm,’ Sézalory told Vogue at the time of the UK store opening. ‘I am very obsessed with making people feel welcome and good. I want to share beauty in general.’
Well, she’s certainly found a beauty in Barry…
