While Pantone may have named Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Grey as their Colours of the Year, they’re not the only trending colours for interiors right now.
In fact, a colour we’d go as far as to say suits current interior trends even better than grey and yellow, is sage green. Thanks to our collective and ever-growing desire for house plants, plus several national lockdowns keeping us from the great outdoors, this calming green hue has been sweeping across Instagram, Pinterest and our homes for a while now.
At johnlewis.com, green related searches are up 260 per cent compared to this time last year, with the most popular categories proving to be wallpaper, cushions and wall art.
Wil Law, Partner & Home Design Stylist says: ‘Green is the colour of the moment, as customers look at ways to feel grounded and connect with nature whilst indoors. Sage is perhaps the easiest shade of green to live with, having a soothing quality, and can be used as a new neutral in the home.’
Meanwhile, sofa.com has also reported an uptick in sales of their green fabrics. Patricia Gibbons from the sofa.com design team says: ‘Our Olive Cotton Matt Velvet has been a really strong performer this season at sofa.com and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down, rather the opposite – it’s up +88% on last year and is now our third bestselling fabric.
‘Overall, we have definitely seen an upward trend of interest in our green fabrics throughout 2020, within both actual orders and requests for fabric samples alike. Green varieties account for a tenth of our fabric offering and currently taking up 15% of all upholstery sales!’
