Back in March 2020, it was announced that H&M would be launching its first ever collaboration with an Indian designer. The Sabyasachi x H&M collection looked set to make history, but sadly, the Covid pandemic soon took over. After postponing the launch due to safety concerns, the collection is finally hitting stores — and it’s coming in just a few days time.
Characterised by eclectic colours, Indian textiles and bohemian silhouettes, Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s ‘Wanderlust’ collection with H&M is inspired by the art of travel, which is perfect now that it may be back on the menu for some. The ‘gender-agnostic’ line features pieces for men and women, from flowing dresses to shirts and chinos, along with a whole host of accessory options.
The brand has also worked with the Sabyasachi Art Foundation to create some of the beautiful prints, which honour Indian traditions.
Speaking of the delayed launch, Sabyasachi explanied: ‘I am happy to announce the new date for the collaboration with H&M, as it gives us the opportunity to spread the Sabyasachi aesthetic to a wider audience in India and worldwide. Due to the complexities of the Covid-19 situation, we had to put the collaboration on hold but I’m eagerly looking forward to launching this ‘ready-to-wear’ collection that will bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life in an understated yet glamorous style.’
Mukherjee also told Vogue India that when designing the range, he ‘didn’t want it to be governed by trends.’
‘I wanted the pieces to be classic, season-agnostic and made with quality,’ he explained, before adding: ‘Over the years, I’ve realised one thing about women: fashion is important but comfort is imperative. I put myself as a shopper. I buy a lot from the high street, and comfort and quality are important.’
Sabyasachi X H&M will launch on August 12th online and in flagship stores here in the UK.
