If you adore animals as much as we do, then we may just have found your dream job. The RSPCA is currently recruiting for a ‘cat cuddler’ (yes, that is now a thing) and you could be the perfect candidate.
The special project is on a volunteer basis and has come with the launch of the charity’s new animal rehoming centre in Manchester and Salford on 15 July.
Since opening, the centre has taken in 31 cats and kittens, 49 rabbits, five mice and one hamster. They are now looking for six volunteers to take on a number of duties to help care for the animals – including cuddling the cats.
The successful candidates will be expected to do everything from cleaning and feeding the animals to meeting potential adopters. And of course, full training will be provided for each of the roles.
Here’s the full list of jobs you can apply for:
- Volunteer Rabbit/Small Animal Care Assistants
- Volunteer Rabbit Socialiser
- Volunteer Cat Care Assistant
- Volunteer Cat Cuddlers/Socialisers
- Volunteer Weekend Receptionist
- Volunteer Cat/Dog Home Visitor
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News Susie Hughes, branch manager of RSPCA Salford revealed that the most popular jobs on the list were the ‘cat cuddler’ and ‘rabbit socialiser’ roles.
‘As you can imagine we have had to hit the ground running with so many animals, which are desperately in need of our help,’ she said. ‘We are looking for volunteers to help us care for the animals and have already filled the cat socialiser roles, as they are always the most popular, but who doesn’t want to sit and cuddle kittens all day?
‘We are also on the look out for people keen to help us with cleaning out the animals, spending time socialising the animals and end of day feeding 4pm to 6pm, which will suit people who have en early finish from work.’
