It’s no secret that we’re a nation of gin lovers and, in turn, many brands are constantly launching different gin-themed products – first there was pink gin (which we all became entirely obsessed with), then there was blue gin and even colour-changing gin.
And now, there’s a new gin trend in town – purple gin. Australian distillery Four Pillars Gin is bringing its cult favourite ‘Bloody Shiraz Gin’ to the UK, launching in Waitrose this month. Using grapes used for making shiraz wine, it’s the ideal tipple for those who enjoy both red wine and gin!
The Bloody Shiraz gin is, according to a press release, ‘the result of an experiment gone right’ and is what happens when you mix Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin with cool climate shiraz grapes sourced from the Yarra Valley and surrounding Victorian regions.
‘The shiraz grapes are soaked in gin for eight weeks, before they are pressed to release the purple ginny liquid, and more Rare Dry Gin is added to bring the gin up to bottling strength,’ it reads. ‘The result is a beautifully balanced gin with a delicious sweetness and notes of pine forest, white pepper, plum and spices’. Plus, there are no added colourings, flavourings or sugar.
It is advised to drink it young and fresh with lemon tonic or bitter lemon, with the brand writing to a customer on Instagram: ‘It’s the perfect accompaniment when you want to cut through the sweetness a little bit, and add a nice bit of tartness’. One customer advises giving the drink a herby twist, commenting: ‘My absolute favourite and add rosemary’.
Many are delighted that the Bloody Shiraz Gin is finally being stocked in the UK, with comments such as ‘And now…finally…on sale in Waitrose…love you guys!!!!!!!’.
