The best boozers in the UK have been announced in this year’s National Pub & Bar Awards. Celebrating the best in the business, 94 venues were shortlisted after being crowned the best in their counties – but only one could be named the overall winner.
And it was The White Horse in Chilgrove, West Sussex that took home the accolade. Situated in the foothills of the beautiful South Downs – and near the famous Goodwood country estate – it’s a luxurious take on the traditional English inn. The kitchen serves up dishes made from fresh local produce – think smoked trout, game pie and ham hock terrine – and alongside quality ales they have an impressive wine list, and even a martini menu.
You can stay at The White Horse too – the boutique rooms (from £95 a night) have a contemporary cottage vibe, with sheepskin rugs, copper bath tubs and handmade soap, king-size beds and even a private patio with a hot tub. Very swish.
It’s not the first award The White Horse has won – it’s taken home trophies from The Good Pub Guide, John Smith’s Great British Pub Awards, and The Good Shoot Hotel Awards.
Not in West Sussex? Here are all the regional winners, so you can plan your next pint. Cheers!
