Just in case you’ve managed to avoid every single global headline in the last 24 hours, yesterday Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, a healthy baby boy.
The pair have chosen to keep their bundle of joy out of the public eye initially, although it’s thought we’ll get to meet the as of yet unnamed little one later this week. And of course, in the meantime, all of the other members of the family are sharing messages of congratulations.
Harry’s big brother Prince William and wife Kate, who are proud parents to three adorable royal babies of their own, already sent an official statement through the Kensington Royal social media accounts, which read: ‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son today, and look forward to meeting the latest addition to the family.’
However, today they added another tongue-in-cheek congratulation to Harry and Meghan during an appearance at the launch of the Kings Cup Regatta at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich.
Speaking to assembled members of the press, William said that he and Kate were ‘absolutely thrilled’ for the couple, and said that they looked forward to meeting their new nephew in the next couple of days.
‘I’m very pleased to welcome my own brother to the Sleep Deprivation Society that is parenting!’ he concluded, to plenty of knowing laughs from the crowd, and Kate herself.
Prince Harry and Meghan formally announced their son’s birth through their own Sussex Royal Instagram account, revealing that the bundle of joy weighed in at 7lbs. 3oz.
‘The duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives,’ the post confirmed.
