Primark did not get the nickname ‘Primarni’ for nothing – the budget high street retailer is well known for creating designer-inspired pieces that cost a mere fraction of the originals, making them available to us normal folk who can’t afford to buy our entire wardrobe at Harrods (yet!).
The latest designer dupe to have caught our beady eyes appeared on Primark’s Instagram page, and immediately got a big reaction from followers. Available in two colours, Primark is selling high-heeled sandals that have a distinctly Versace-esque vibe to them, thanks to the chunky chain detail strap across the front, accompanied by an ankle strap to keep them secure.
Versace’s Medusa chain high heels have a very similar gold chain strap across the toes, although the heel on these is much higher and the strap around the ankle is also gold chain (we see these as much more ‘I’ve got my own personal chaffeur’ shoes than the Primark version, which look easier to walk in thanks to the block heel).
Unsurprisingly, there is also a rather large price difference between the two designs: Versace’s chain heels will set you back £1,010, while Primark’s clock in at £14 a pair. Just the casual £996 saving then.
Of course, Versace’s shoes are real leather and incredible quality, while Primark’s probably won’t become a family heirloom, but if you are looking for that chunky chain vibe on a shoestring, then we think they’re a pretty good dupe.
Another high street retailer that seems to have been inspired by Versace is Marks & Spencer, where you can pick up a pair of chain-detail heels in either black or tan for £45 (not bad considering these are leather). Other brands such as ASOS and New Look have already sold out of their Versace lookalike sandals, suggesting plenty of us want to chain our feet up in something uber-glamorous this summer.
