How to pick a perfume based on your star sign

Picking a new perfume is always a minefield. It’s not cheap to buy a new fragrance, and it’s crucial to pick something that you’ll love for months to come.

The Perfume Shop has attempted to ease the process by suggesting the perfect type of perfume for you, based on your star sign. Alternatively, this could help you pick out a scent for a loved one to pop under the Christmas tree.

So which scent is right for you or your chosen recipient? Here’s what The Perfume Shop has to say depending on your star sign:

Aries

‘The first sign of the Zodiac, Aries truly are the babies of the astrological year and are courageous, confident and passionate. Aries maintain a childlike zest for life so look out for fresh fragrances. A bright, fresh scent such as Lancôme La Vie Est Belle L’Eclat is great.’

Taurus

‘Taureans enjoy the finer things in life so look out for scents with luxurious notes such as Tonka bean, Vanilla and Jasmine. Pick a powerful fragrance that lasts; something like Versace Oud Oriental would be a great choice.’

Gemini

‘Those born under the sign of the twins like to change their image, change their minds and change their outlook, so will need a perfume(s) to match. Limited editions and fragrance minis are a great choice for a Gemini giving them the opportunity to mix it up.’

Cancer

‘The sign of Cancer is ruled by the moon and those born under it will be misty-eyed and reflective. Home-loving Cancerians, who balance their business head with their domestic urges, will be pulled towards more androgynous classics like Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey.’

Leo

‘Leos need to be adored! They want to be noticed, admired and emulated. An original, transformational Leo would reach for a brand new, very bright scent like Paco Rabanne Pure XS.’

Virgo

‘Those born under the sign of the Virgin like to throw themselves wholeheartedly into everything they do, however they don’t like to be the centre of attention, so a light floral scent is the perfect choice. They would be fans of a light, floral scent such as Jimmy Choo Blossom because it isn’t overpowering.’

Libra

‘Libras are born to forgive and be forgiven. They hate the thought of offending anyone – even with their fashion choices, so if you are buying for a Libra look out for fresh scents. Because It’s You by Armani would be the top choice.’

Scorpio

‘Ladies born in the month of Scorpio have a sting in their tail. Sexy and controversial, they move forward without hesitation, inspiring others and breaking down barriers so when shopping for a Scorpio, pick from the Oriental fragrance family.’

Sagittarius

‘The sign of the Archer inspires travel, fun and adventure. Those born under it are just non-stop so you need to pick a heavy scent that lasts. Try Good Girl by Carolina Herrera, which is a bold scent with staying power.’

Capricorn

‘It’s not that they’re super-human, but Capricorns don’t break a sweat, raising three kids while maintaining perfect hair. Capricorns would need a perfume that works as hard as they do, energetic yet delicate, with a day-long tenure, such as Miss Dior.’

Aquarius

‘Aquarians are the most faithful sign of the Zodiac. So if you are buying for an Aquarian, rebuying their favourite is an easy win. If you do want to pick something different then choose something from the same fragrance family as their signature scent – if they like floral, go floral.’

Pisces

‘Those born under the sign of the Fish love people, they love to help and are family minded and community oriented. Those who love to stay at home would enjoy a light and airy gift set, such as Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream.’
