Ingrown hairs. Where do we start? They’re pretty annoying, right? Not to mention often very sore.
They’re one of life’s little nuisances that seem largely unavoidable, even if you do wax instead of shave. In fact, according to a Beauty and the Beach survey commissioned by Venus Gillette, as many as 30% of women who groom their bikini lines consider ingrown hairs to be one of their biggest hair removal problems.
‘The condition of skin is important when it comes to ingrown hairs,’ says Dr Anita Sturnham, dermatologist and Venus ambassador. The follicular opening can become clogged with a build-up of skin cells, which then trap the hair, impeding its natural progress out of the skin. Hair pierces the follicle wall growing into the surrounding skin.’
Of course, they are poppable, but trying to get rid of them by physically bursting the skin is not only painful, it can lead to scabs too and even scars.
So, what should you do? Well, according to a group of women, the solution comes bottled.
According to Allure, these ladies have been professing their love for COSRX’s BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, which is a powerful exfoliator designed to unclog pore and discourage the formation of blackheads.
Writing on the Reddit Skincare Addiction forum, women say they started using the £16 product not just on their face but on their body too and miraculously they noticed a huge difference in the development and appearance of ingrown hairs.
One user wrote: ‘I had an ingrown hair near my jaw and accepted my fate of having to pluck and face razor it off every couple of weeks. Earlier this year, I started consistently using my AHA once a week for hyperpigmentation and acne issues and noticed a couple of months ago that poof, it was gone!’
If you suffer from the dreaded ingrown hairs too, its certainly worth a go…
