Olly Smith’s mulled white wine recipe

A cosying drink to turn your kitchen-table gathering into an intimate chorus.

EQUIPMENT Saucepan

1 bottle white wine
30ml seven-year-old rum
30ml Grand Marnier
90ml apple juice
6 cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1⁄4 nutmeg, grated
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced

  1. Add all the ingredients to a saucepan.
  2. Heat gently until just simmering (do not boil). Simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Serve in seasonal glasses or mugs.

TIP Mulled cider is great to try in autumn. Swap out the white wine for your favourite (hard) cider and switch the rum for Calvados.
