Olly Smith’s barbecue belters

To cover all bases at a barbie, grab a few bottles of bubbly and rosé to stick in an ice bucket with your white. I also love summer cup for simple cocktails, and my recommendation is a nifty plum and cranberry fusion. Bag some cool lagers (Aldi’s Rheinbacher Pilsner is good value at £1.09 for 500ml) and a zero-alcohol option too – I’m loving Estrella Galicia 0.0 per cent, which is £9.60 per case at Majestic. And plenty of ice!

WINE OF THE WEEK: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2021 (12.5%), £6, Co-Op. Britain’s best-value white. Stop reading this, nip to the Co-Op and grab as much as they have.

Cava Rosado (11.5%), £5.29, Aldi. Fruity, crowdpleasing pink fizz from Spain that’s a steal for the price.

Myrtia Mschofilero Assyrtiko Rosé 2021 (12.5%), £10, M&S. Highly fragrant with lemony zing, this Greek rosé is new to M&S and fab with shellfish.

Finest Ribera del Duero 2019 (14.5%), £12, Tesco. Stunningly rich red, perfect to pour with sizzling steaks. World-class quality – a must-buy wine.

Reverend Hubert Summer Cup (20.1%), £29.99, reverendhubert.com. Delicious with ice and soda, this makes a great summer gift with its eyecatching bottle.
