Olay’s new Retinol24 Max contains even more retinol than its original formula

Retinol: it’s a gold standard ingredient in anti-ageing, as well as a favourite among those who suffer from breakouts and blemishes. It’s really come into its own in recent years, with everybody from beauty influencers to dermatologists praising its unique qualities.

And these days, you’d be hard pressed to find a brand that hasn’t dabbled in retinol, including none other than high street hero Olay, who have actually just reformulated theirs for an even more powerful effect.

Olay’s Retinol24 Max includes a night cream, night serum, and eye cream, all of which contain 20 per cent more retinol as their original Retinol24 formulas do, which were launched in early 2020. For this reason, these are products best suited to those of us who already have experience with retinol in our routines, or who have been using Olay’s first range for a while now.

The key to retinol is starting slowly; it’s a powerful ingredient, meaning that skin can become reactive if it’s introduced too quickly or at too much of a high percentage.

The new products in Olay’s Retinol24 Max — much like the originals — contain a blend of retinol and retinyl propionate, which Olay apparently calls the ‘Batman and Robin’ of retinoids, because they work so seamlessly in tandem.

But while the Max range is recommended for retinol connoisseurs, it also sounds like it’ll work wonders for dehydrated or dry complexions, as the new formula contains 40 per cent more hydrating ingredients than the old. These include glycerin, which is a humectant that helps the skin to keep moisture in, as well as trending ingredient niacinamide, which is excellent at targeting any potential redness caused by retinol use.

We also love the sound of this new range as its price point (again, like the original range), is fair and makes retinol more accessible. Each item is £39.99, and can be bought from stockists like Boots now.
