Nine Perfect Strangers: The new TV adaptation from the same author as Big Little Lies

The jury might still be out on whether we’ll be getting a third season of Big Little Lies following the explosive second season last year. But fans of Liane Moriaty will be pleased to hear that the Australian author is getting yet another one of her hit novels adapted for the small screen.

Nine Perfect Strangers, based on Moriaty’s 2018 novel of the same name, has been confirmed as Hulu’s latest project with both Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman on board as executive producers.

Here’s everything we know about it so far…

What is Nine Perfect Strangers about?

Those who have read Moriaty’s novel will be familiar with the story which is based in a remote wellness resort. Here, nine strangers who have all signed up for different reasons, whether its for weight loss or recovery from heartbreak, come together to get help to better their lives. They’re led by a woman named Masha, who manages the retreat and is determined to reinvigorate their minds and bodies with a series of methods, including making guests ditch addictive things such as sugar, caffeine and the most addictive of all: technology.

Who has been cast?

As well as being executive producers on the show Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy also both star in the cast. Kidman takes the role of resort leader Masha, while McCarthy will play Frances Welty, a former author who arrives at the retreat as one of the nine strangers to get over a broken heart.

No other cast members have been announced yet but it does feel like a bit of a Big Little Lies reunion as both Kidman and Moriaty are involved, as well as creator David E Kelley who was also behind the hit HBO show.

When will it air?

Nine Perfect Strangers is still in the pre-production stage which means we’ll have to wait a while before we see it on-screen. However, it is set to air on Hulu sometime in 2021, and hopefully in the UK around the same time.
