Remember back in 2019 when everyone was wearing that polka dot ZARA dress? The black and white number was all over Instagram and the Spanish retailer even went on to release it in multiple colourways for AW19 due to the success of the white version.
The oversized spotty dress proved exceptionally popular, with an Instagram account even popping up to document sightings of the £40 dress in the wild – yes, really. Was it the affordable price tag or the oversized silhouette of the piece that caused it to become the look of 2019? We will never know.
Two years on, however, we felt something of a rush when we spotted a lookalike polka dot dress in Marks & Spencer’s new SS21 collection back at the beginning of April.
With a similar oversized silhouette and polka dot print, we already predicted a polka dot comeback this summer, especially as lockdown restrictions ease and the nation waves goodbye to lockdown loungewear. And we weren’t wrong – the M&S dress quickly sold out, but don’t worry, as the dress is officially back in stock again – hoorah!
The dress comes in a versatile midi length with a smart shirt silhouette and a button-through fastening. Unlike the 2019 incarnation, the M&S polka dot collared dress also features an oversized collar with a feminine ruffled edge that is a trendy update for SS21.
What’s more, the dress also comes in a regular and long length and in sizes 6 to 24 making it super inclusive. At £45, the M&S polka dot collared dress is just £5 more than the infamous ZARA dress, making it another affordable addition to your wardrobe.
Though the M&S polka dot dress doesn’t yet come in any other colours, the retailer has released this similar Polka Dot Midi Shirt Dress for £39.50, now on sale for just £30, that comes in the reverse colourway.
If the popularity of the ZARA polka dot dress is anything to go by – and how quickly the first drop of this M&S dress sold out – we predict this new-in number will be flying off the shelves once again. Go, go, go!
