Last year, everyone went mad for M&S’s leather hiker boots. They simply couldn’t keep them in stock, so popular were the £59 lace-up boots, so this year they’ve given the humble hiker boot a chunky update for autumn/winter 2021.
Whether it’s the practical comfort the style serves up, the fact they surprisingly go with everything – from jeans to skirts and dresses – or our collective newfound love of walking (since its all we could do during lockdown), hiker boots are still a hot trend so if you didn’t get any last year, you should definitely be thinking about investing in a pair this year.
We say invest, but really, you don’t need to spend a lot to get in on the trend. M&S’s new hiker boots are just £45 and feature all the hallmarks of a classic (and much more expensive) hiker boot: chunky rubber soles, metal hooked eyelets and contrast laces, all in a practical colour that won’t show up dirt. They even feature Insolia Flex® technology, which makes walking more comfortable by keeping your feet correctly aligned within the shoes, so they are a genuinely practical walking shoe, too.
Available in khaki with contrasting red laces or dark grey with black laces, The M&S hiker boots could even be compared to Grenson’s cult £325 Nanette hiker boots, which Holly Willoughby has worn several times on TV, most recently just yesterday on This Morning‘s special ‘From the forest’ episode.
She also wore them several times throughout her time presenting I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here with Declan Donnelly back in 2018.
Grenson’s ankle boots feature the same chunky sole and metal eyelet lace up design; they come in tan, black and other colours and, while they are made of leather which will of course put the price up, when the M&S hiker boots cost just £45 versus £325, they’re a great purse-friendly alternative to the real deal if you’re on a budget.
