M&S has sold over 60,000 pairs of these leggings and they’re on sale for under £20

Finding the perfect pair of gym leggings is no mean feat – how many discarded pairs of leggings lurk at the bottom of your wardrobe because they weren’t supportive enough, were too tight and restricted movement, slipped down while running or, worst of all, they didn’t pass the squat test (when you can see your knickers through them when you squat or bend over)? Probably more than you’d care to admit.

Which is why, when we come across a pair that have been bought over 60,000 times in the last year alone, have hundreds of 5-star reviews and only cost £25, the feeling is akin to finding the holy grail.

They are M&S‘s Go Move Leggings from the brand’s Goodmove range of activewear and have quickly become the line’s bestselling item. So what’s so good about them? Well, for starters, they pass all the aforementioned tests: they’ve been ‘ergonomically designed to fit and flatter’ and are made from a moisture-wicking, breathable and quick-drying ‘blackout fabric’, which means they pass the squat test with flying colours. They have a hidden inner drawcord to stop them slipping down (a pet peeve of runners everywhere), and are high-waisted with a thick, secure back waistband which makes them ‘super-supportive’.

All of this means that they would be the perfect pair of leggings whatever type of exercise you’re into, whether that’s running, yoga, spinning, living room HIIT workouts or sweaty gym sessions.

But we didn’t even get to the best part yet, which is that (drum roll please) they have pockets. Plural. One side pocket on the leg is big enough for your phone and one on the back of the waistband for smaller items like your keys. Why pockets aren’t built into every pair of gym leggings ever made befuddles us endlessly, but nevertheless, M&S has listened to the pleas of women everywhere and blessed us with what might just be the perfect pair of workout leggings.

Don’t just believe us – the online reviews speak for themselves: ‘These leggings are amazingly comfy. They are fully supportive without being too tight, so they are ideal for going running in. They are also flattering on your stomach/waist,’ wrote one pleased shopper.

‘New Year’s resolution- get fit! These leggings are making that easier, they are amazing, so soft and comfortable and still hold everything in, in the right places,’ wrote another back in January. ‘No need to pay inflated prices for exercise clothes when you can buy these. Well done M&S.’

Go Move Gym Leggings, £25, M&S

The M&S Go Move leggings are available in sizes 6-24 and in three great colourways – khaki, raspberry and black. At £25 they’re already great value, but right now the khaki and raspberry versions are in the sale at £18 and £13.50, respectively. Sadly, both are (unsurprisingly) sold out online (for now), but who knows what your local store’s stock is like so it’s worth checking. Thankfully, the ever-versatile black version is still available in all sizes online. What are you waiting for? 60,000 people can’t be wrong, after all.
