Hands up, who else got sucked into Marks and Spencer’s Colin vs Aldi’s Cuthbert Caterpillar cake debacle earlier this year? Regardless of who won the social media banter battle, there’s no messing with M&S’s original Colin the Caterpillar cake. Can you believe it’s been around since 1990?
In the past 30 years, Marks and Spencer has redesigned Colin multiple times to celebrate the most special occasions. From a Valentine’s Day Colin and Connie to a Frankencolin cake for Halloween, there’s no look this caterpillar can’t pull off. And this year, for the first time ever, Marks and Spencer is launching a special Colin the Caterpillar cake just for Father’s Day.
M&S developers spent a year perfecting the new look of everyone’s favourite chocolate caterpillar cake. Eventually, they designed the Father’s Day edition to be half the size of the regular cake, weighing 350g. ‘My Hero Colin’ was created to celebrate all of the heroic dads and father figures out there.
On offer for £5, the hero Colin cake features Marks and Spencer’s signature rich chocolate sponge, creamy milk chocolate, swirls of decadent buttercream, and Colin’s famous white chocolate face. Just for Father’s Day, he’ll also be sporting a white and dark chocolate mask, along with a blue and red edible cape. Customers can even cut their own mask from the box it comes in.
Colin fans were pleased to see his newest style when M&S shared the look on Instagram. The photo gained over 15,000 likes in 5 hours, with shoppers excitedly commenting on the post.
‘How cute is this?’ one follower wrote, while another joked: ‘So cute! Can I be my own hero and get it for myself??’
As well as the Father’s Day Colin the Caterpillar, M&S also revealed it is launching Colin Cookie Dough, Colin Sprinkles and Colin Softies Sweets for the first time this week.
We can’t wait to try them all!
