After last year, we were absolutely gunning for Christmas 2021. In the first week of September alone, there were 500,000 searches for ‘Christmas’ on the M&S website and it had already sold 1,000 frozen turkeys at the time. Now that the Omicron variant of Covid has taken over, we’re holding on to every hope that we’ll still be able to enjoy the festive season.
When it comes to Christmas food, M&S is determined to make 2021 its best year yet and its impressive festive line-up looks is guaranteed to light up every festivity. In fact, #lit is a bit of a theme. From the revamped light-up snow globe liqueurs and the first-ever light-up chocolate box to ready-to-drink cocktails and golden blond chocolate treats, this Christmas looks set to be all about having a good time and indulging in the delicious. And don’t even get us started on the sticky toffee alternatives to mince pies!
April Preston, Director of Product Development at M&S says: ‘I can’t wait for customers to see the ultimate collection of gifts we’ve created this year, bursting with that signature M&S magic you know and love! Our iconic light-up snow globe liqueurs have been given a new look and we have introduced a gorgeous spiced sugar plum flavour, along with our first ever rum liqueur – a must try!’
‘And it’s not just the globes that will be illuminated this year, with the world’s first light-up chocolate boxes as well as shortbread and tea tins that shine brightly. The chocolate everyone is talking about, golden blond, can be found in many of our sweet treats including our Magical Mushrooms – I’ll leave you to discover those! And how could we forget ‘The Marksologist’: our new range of premium pre-mixed cocktails that Tom Cruise would be proud of.’
On the M&S Christmas food 2021 shelves:
Be still our beating hearts – Colin the Caterpillar has taken on yet another delicious form, this time bringing his chocolatey magic to that old festive favourite, the trifle. It features chocolate sponge rolls filled with buttercream topped with chocolate custard, chocolate mousse, whipped cream and finished with mini Colin faces. Running to M&S immediately.
We’ve already seen the Percy Pigloo cake, which is adorned with a smashable pink igloo. Now, there’s a ‘Night Before Christmas’ smash cake available at M&S. Foodie Instagram account New Foods UK described the Madeira cake as being filled with ‘delicious buttercream and jam, topped with a white chocolate dome and hidden treats inside!’
If you haven’t tried M&S Yumnuts before then you are in for a treat, because the extra special festive Santa’s Yumnuts are back for another year. Think a melt-in-the-mouth pastry hybrid of yum-yums and doughnuts, with sweet icing on top. We’ll be filling our sleigh with these pronto.
Fancy a change from the traditional mince pie? Then these Sticky Toffee Pud Pies might be just what you’re after. They feature a rich sticky toffee sponge on a layer of caramel stuffed with plump vine fruits, encased in all butter pastry topped with nibbed pecan nuts. These puds can be served hot or cold – we’ll be having ours warm with lashings of cream!
These aren’t just any crumpets, these are Christmas tree-shaped crumpets… Why have a regular round fluffy treat when you could have a festive one, instead? A pack of six can be found inside M&S stores and online from Ocado for £1.25 here.
