This is why there won’t be an M&S beauty advent calendar for 2020

The release of the M&S beauty advent calendar is always one of the most highly anticipated moments of the year for the store’s loyal customers – so the news that there won’t be one for 2020 will come as something of a shock.

Despite the popularity of previous editions, in the face of one of the most unpredictable years in recent history, M&S has confirmed that its switching up its strategy and swapping its usual advent calendar for a curated beauty box, which will be released in October.

‘This year, we didn’t want to wait until December to give you a beauty treat. So, instead of the beauty advent calendar, we bring you The Beauty Edit – an incredible line-up of 10 beauty buys curated by our in-house experts,’ the retailer explains when you search ‘beauty advent calendar’ on its website.

‘It launches on 27 October and is the perfect gift (or present to yourself) for a little pre-Christmas pampering.’

No further details about the Beauty Edit box have yet been revealed, although a sticker on the front indicated that it will be worth at least £120, and include one of M&S’s most popular beauty hall brands, PRAI (of bestselling neck and décolletage cream fame).

Other M&S beauty edits, such as the Summer Beauty Bag, have always been exceptionally affordable and stuffed with products from names including Nuxe, Ren and Pixi, so it’s fair to say we can expect big things from this new Christmas offering.

However, if you’ve really got your heart set on an advent calendar rather than a box, check out this year’s YOU Beauty Advent Calendar, which is priced at an accessible £60 (similar to M&S’s, which is typically around £40 when you spend £25 in store).

Brands inside include Elemis, Murad, NARS and Aveda, to the tune of a £260 value, and it’s housed in a chic Art Deco-inspired green and gold set of drawers.

The only downside? It always sells out very quickly, so we’d recommend placing your order sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
