You can now get paid to travel the world and sip gin while doing it

Sick of the humdrum of the 9-5? Fed up of cramming onto the train morning and night to just sit in an office all day? Well, listen up.

A company is offering people a once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel the globe and sip gin while doing so. Yes, really.

London bar Mr Fogg’s have teamed up with Bombay Sapphire to offer an all-expenses-paid trip, which requires you to head abroad in search of gins and botanicals, and you can take a companion along with you.

From Mumbai to Hong Kong, Tokyo to San Francisco, New York to Lisbon, the lucky pair will be hired as Global Ambassadors and race against the clock to these destinations over the course of 80 days.

Why 80 days specifically, you ask? Well, the trip is inspired by Phileas Fogg, the protagonist in the 1873 Jules Verne novel, Around the World in Eighty Days.

Charged with documenting this modern take on Mr Fogg’s original journey, the chosen explorers will be required to write a journal of their journey (in a bespoke Aspinal of London book, FYI) and post about it on a blog and social media channels.

They’ll also have to undertake the strenuous task of taste-testing gins and collecting botanicals from these exotic locations so that they can create their own ‘Around the World Cocktail’ which, once back in London, they’ll enjoy on the house at Mr Fogg’s for as long as it runs.

But, who exactly are they looking for?

According to the job ad, you’ll need:

  • Good photography skills
  • Strong brand awareness of Mr Fogg’s and Bombay Sapphire
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Active social media skills
  • Valid passport
  • A gin loving friend

Do-able, right?

Levison Wood, the famed explorer, has been called up to assist in choosing the winner. His work has featured in international publications around the world including his celebrated Walking The Nile, Walking The Americas and Walking The Himalayas on Channel 4. Apparently, ‘he will use his extensive knowledge and expertise to find the bravest and most talented adventurers to embark on this expedition’.
