Dig out your dancing shoes and wriggle into your corsets because Moulin Rouge! The Musical is coming to the UK.
The hit production, which first launched on Broadway earlier this year, will see Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-winning 2001 blockbuster come to life on stage in London’s West End in Spring 2021.
The news comes after the showstopping musical received huge success in New York, allowing creators to bring it across the pond for fans in the UK.
The show will open at the Piccadilly Theatre in March 2021 and while that may seem like quite a way off, tickets will soon be on sale to the public.
Based on the film which saw Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor as passionate young couple, Christian and Satine – cabaret actress and singer at the Moulin Rouge, the musical will feature a stellar soundtrack with a whole host of original songs from the movie like ‘Come What May’, ‘Elephant Love Medley’ and ‘Your Song’.
However, the updated set list will also include some modern pop tracks such as Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’, Outkast’s ‘So Fresh, So Clean’ and Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’. Frankly, it sounds like our dream come true. And if you can’t wait to hear it all, you can listen to the full soundtrack online.
‘After ten years in development, and following the fantastic response to Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York, we are thrilled to be sharing this musical with audiences in the UK. We can’t wait to bring the show to London!,’ said producer Carmen Pavlovic, Global Creatures.
Casting for the West End production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical has yet to be announced so we’re free to speculate and fantasize over which British stars we’d like to see in it. In the US, the show currently stars Aaron Tveit as Christian, Karen Olivo as Satine and Danny Burstein as Harold Zidler, the owner of the Moulin Rouge.
