Edwina Ings-Chambers: Mother’s Day beauty gifts

Here’s my pick of Mother’s Day beauty gifts that are as thoughtful as they are indulgent.

This time next week will be Mothering Sunday. I’ve always been a fan of giving blooms but, naturally, I’m also in favour of bestowing a beauty indulgence, too. I find it comes with a subtext that says: you’re loved, you’re appreciated, here’s something spoiling and special. They’re also gifts that should last for months, they’re like love notes that keep repeating…

Mother's Day beauty gifts
  1. And so to soap which, I appreciate, could seem like a mundane choice. Ah, but not when it’s these Bath Flowers from Heathcote & Ivory, which turn bathing into a beautiful ritual. Each petal is infused with neroli, mandarin and lemon essential oils. Part of the Sunshine Served collection, it becomes more enveloping as the flowers melt around you. £12, heathcote-ivory.com.
  2. Another option to smell as sweet is the Rose Shower Oil from Aromatherapy Associates. This can transform any shower from a necessity into a treat and has a lovely rich oil-to-milk texture. From £10, spacenk.com.
  3. Chantecaille’s latest awareness-raising collection was created in conjunction with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, with proceeds donated to the charity. The Giraffe Eye Quartet palette offers matt and shimmery finishes, while the hues of brown, copper and pearl are inspired by the animals. A special plea to the brand: please make these marvellous products refillable. £70, chantecaille.com.
  4. For a new wash bag, look to Elizabeth Scarlett’s beautiful collection of Cherry Blossom velvet bags with waterproof interiors. They are sumptuous but practical and highly desirable. £36, elizabethscarlett.com.
  5. For lipstick wearers, snap up a limited-edition Rouge Dior embossed with flowers inspired by the house’s haute couture. The velvety texture feels luxurious and it’s available in nude or red. £33, dior.com.
  6. Back on the gorgeous-smelling front is the latest incarnation of Narciso Rodriguez For Her eau de parfum – a Musc Noir Rose version. Here, a dose of rose has been added to tuberose, musk and bergamot to create a romantic and enticing scent that feels characterful rather than sweet and fluffy. A hit for all ages. From £52, johnlewis.com.
  7. I’d also recommend Laura Mercier Fresh Fig Body Cream. This isn’t a new launch – but it’s a classic, really luxurious product that feels a treat to use and contains grape seed oil to nourish skin. Plus it smells glorious – not too sweet but enveloping. £56, spacenk.com.
