As a nation, we’ve never been more into skincare. The past year has seen a re-focus on the health of our skin, with self-care as a priority. 2020 made us perfect our routines, go makeup-free, and mask more than ever. But which products did we go wild for during the crazy ride that was 2020?
Well, there was a definite shift toward affordable formulas that won’t break the bank. In fact, all four of Boots’ most searched-for facial skincare products between January and December 2020 were under £12, which is pretty amazing if you think about all the super high end, expensive skincare that’s out there.
First up, there were two products by ingredient-led favourite The Ordinary, and their bestseller Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 was of course one of them. The oil-free formula rivals other much more expensive options on the market. It delivers instant hydration to the skin, as well as a healthy dose of vitamin B5, and its texture is non-sticky.
The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% was also a big hitter in 2020, and given that niacinamide was one of the year’s biggest trending ingredients, this sort of comes as no surprise. The Ordinary’s formula promises to target enlarged pores, blemishes, and uneven skin tone with its powerful blend of both niacinamide and zinc.
Also in the top four were two of CeraVe’s biggest sellers. CeraVe had a great year at Boots as a whole, with sales up an impressive 321% in 2020. The brand — which uses stripped back formulas powered by skin barrier-loving ceramides — is particularly beloved for its cleansers, two of which were so popular they were the most searched for on the site.
The CeraVe Foaming Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin and the CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser with Salicylic Acid saw the most searches, joining The Ordinary’s two serums as the hero skincare products of 2020.
Luckily, you can buy all four online at boots.com for less than £12 per product!
