This was the most popular foundation of 2018, according to Instagram

The word ‘foundation’ means the base, the structure, the starting point – and this is just as true when it comes to beauty as it is when it comes to any other definition. A great foundation can make or break a face of make-up, and according to the collective voice of the internet, there’s one particular bottle that outperforms the rest.

Instagram account TrendMood1, which documents the latest and greatest make-up launches and trends, has shared a series of polls undertaken to determine the best beauty basics of 2018 – including, first and foremost, foundation.

The winner, according to the account’s 1.2 million loyal followers? Too Faced’s Born This Way Foundation, which beat other well-known brands like Estee Lauder’s Double Wear to the top spot with 69% of the vote.

The foundation, which retails for £29, has received rave reviews across the internet for its fresh medium coverage, easy blendability and ‘airbrushed’ finish.

‘I love this foundation,’ wrote one shopper on the Debenhams website. ‘I’ve had many people comment that my skin looks airbrushed when I wear it. I’ve spent years looking for the perfect foundation for me and this is it.’

‘Easy to apply, feels nice on your skin, looks really natural,’ another agreed, while a third posted: ‘Absolutely love this foundation. Leaves your skin looking smooth and flawless and it lasts all day until I take it off.’

The secret to the foundation’s much-applauded formula lies in part with the inclusion of coconut water, to help replenish moisture levels without over-hydrating, and hyaluronic acid, which provides a smoother, more youthful appearance.

If you haven’t spotted Too Faced’s range of products in your local Boots or Superdrug, this is because they are mainly stocked in department stores in the UK – in addition to Debenhams, you can also get your hands on the foundation at John Lewis & Partners and Selfridges, as well as online from stores like ASOS.

However, it’s well worth seeking out – as if the praise from the internet weren’t enough, Too Faced make-up is cruelty-free, vegan, and formulated without parabens, and with 35 shades to choose from, the majority of customers can find their perfect match with ease. So – is 2019 the year that you convert to Born This Way?
