These are the 20 most picturesque places to relocate to in the UK

The pandemic has seen UK-dwellers change the way they feel about where’s home. We’ve seen a mass exodus from London, with the capital’s population set to dwindle for the first time since 1988, for example. And data from the new Home Improvement Trends Report from Rated People has also revealed that former London dwellers were not alone in wanting a change, and one that’s slightly greener.

In fact, over a quarter of British homeowners (29 per cent) say they want to move house this year to get more outside space, while a further 25 per cent want a bigger home; both of which are more difficult to achieve in big cities, such as London.

As part of their research, Rated People wanted to find which locations in the UK were the most picturesque and therefore great areas to relocate to. They analysed Instagram hashtag data for over 500 cities and towns across the UK, comparing them with their respective population size, which they believe reveals the locations people want to photograph the most.

In the top spot was Durham in County Durham, which has over 2.5 million snaps on Instagram, despite a seemingly small population of 50,000. This means there are over 50 pictures shared per person. Photos mainly featured the gorgeous locations surrounded by the River Wear and stunning cathedral.

In second place is scenic beach town Newquay in Cornwall, which has 42 photos per person, closely followed by Stamford in Lincolnshire, with 32 pictures per capita. The rest of the top 20 also includes Brighton, Oxford, Margate and Edinburgh.
