Every season there are certain high-street hits that fly off the rails, and Monsoon’s gingham ‘Dolly’ dress is one of those catch-me-if-you-can treasures.
With a feminine, vintage-y feel, the midi length and waist-enhancing cut are incredible flattering, and we love the tie-up 3/4 length sleeves (please can we have more dresses with sleeves?!).
Button down dresses are everywhere this summer (Rochelle Humes’ floral number from New Look has caught our eye too) – but the gingham pattern on Monsoon’s Dolly dress wins extra style points in our book.
For weeks the £59 dress has been sold out everywhere and online – but thank the fashion gods (or Monsoon’s stock control department) because it is now back on sale!
Even more pleasing, in addition to the original black and white gingham, Monsoon has now released the Dolly in a red and white gingham, too. We’re quite tempted to get them both…
How to accessorise? Wear with a chunky wedge sandal or pointed flat slingbacks, or even lace-up Converse-style trainers for a casual, off-duty look. For added whimsy, a circular woven basket bag would look great if you’re heading to the beach. For town, try a simple cross body-bag in a colour-clashing bright. And don’t forget your sunnies: a 50’s style cat eye – and a matching red lip – would really amp up the dress’s retro vibe.
While we might have overlooked Monsoon in the past, their SS18 collection has really impressed us. There are still the boho pieces the brand is known for, but it’s by no means all they do. We’ve spied several chic summer dresses online, so if gingham isn’t your thing try the off-the-shoulder striped linen Utari dress or the A-line embroidered Perrie.
If your heart’s still set on the Dolly, then don’t hang about – we’re betting stocks will be sold out again soon.
