The heatwave that the UK has been enjoying over the past few weeks is many things, but the ideal circumstances for matte skin is not one of them. But if you’ve been suffering with shine overload in the sunny weather, fear not – we’ve found a trick that could make all the difference, and it won’t cost you a penny.
Celebrity make-up artist Pati Dubroff knows a thing or two about keeping skin looking red carpet ready at all times. Speaking during a recent video interview with Harper’s Bazaar, where she shared the secrets to actress Priyanka Chopra’s beauty look, she revealed that the key to reducing shine may be in your moisturiser.
‘Moisturiser is important but you don’t put it everywhere,’ Pati explained. Instead, she ‘only pats moisturizer on where Chopra needs it – the outer edges of her face – then uses a mattifying primer along the t-zone and center.’
Her moisturiser of choice, Augustines Bader The Cream, may be somewhat out of our price range – a 50ml tube of the intense hydrator will set you back £205 – but the principle remains the same.

Application tips from Professor Bader. —— Before applying the cream, warm between fingertips. The cream will then match the temperature of your face and will absorb quicker. —— Using upward sweeping strokes, gently massage the product into the skin, focusing on areas of concern. This encourages blood flow to the area, 'waking up' your skin without damaging its elasticity. —— Discover more, link in bio. —— #AugustinusBader #HowToApply
‘You don’t want a shiny center, so moisturiser on the perimeter of the face. Hydration in the areas where you want the glowiness,’ she details during the clip. ‘Then, mattification in the center, where you’re going to want to be more matte, but you don’t want to use a lot of powder, because powder is so aging.’
‘Whatever problems I might be having on my skin, Pati knows how to take care of it,’ Priyanka herself says to the camera. And if we can’t trust a lady with skin this glowy, who can we?
