Many of us will have watched the 2021 U.S. Presidential Inauguration, where both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in in front of a host of VIP guests. One such guest was Michelle Obama, who absolutely blew us away with her beautiful purple colour-block outfit, bouncy curls, and jaw-dropping eye makeup. Luckily, for those who want to steal her look, Michelle’s makeup artist has revealed exactly which products he used on the former First Lady.
Carl Ray has spoken to Harper’s Bazaar UK about how he got Michelle looking inauguration-ready with makeup that stood out even alongside a face mask.
‘I wanted her to have a powerful beauty look that would need to be achieved by playing up the top half of her face,’ he revealed. ‘I knew that since her whole face wouldn’t be visible, the eyes and lashes would be the star of this particular look,’ he added.
So what exactly did the talented MUA use on her for the special occasion? You may be surprised to hear that several super-influential millennial brands snuck into the line up, from Glossier to Fenty. And as mentioned, it really was all about the eye products. ‘I wanted an impactful smoky eye for the event,’ explained Carl. ‘I was going for a dramatic glam eye that would really play well to the camera.’ And that it did!
Here are the exact thirteen products he used to achieve this (bearing in mind he also used a foundation, which he has not revealed as of yet).
