It’s not every day that the Duchess of Sussex wears something that we could feasibly afford to own ourselves. M&S dresses and H&M maternity wear aside, Meghan Markle’s wardrobe also contains a high percentage of amazing designer clothing, which we adore, but don’t quite have the budget to copy.
However, if you lusted after Meghan’s New York baby shower sunglasses just as much as the rest of us, you’re in luck, as they’re one of the more purse-friendly pieces in her collection.
The oversized frames are from Australian line Le Specs, and to the surprise of absolutely no one, flew out of stock after they were spotted on the stylish mum-to-be during her recent visit to the States.
Speaking to Royal Central, a representative for the brand said that sales of the shape had soared since Meghan was snapped in them. ‘The sales of the style more than tripled last week,’ they said when the pictures first came out. ‘Our website traffic has increased significantly, I’d say more so than any other celebrity wearing Le Specs.’
Stock levels predictably depleted, but now the eager-eyed royal watchers at HELLO! magazine have spotted that they’re back on Net-A-Porter’s website yet again – at the very reasonable price of just £45.
Meghan’s eyewear collection spans a variety of luxe brands, including Victoria Beckham, Karen Walker and Tom Ford – but she’s also been seen in more accessible frames from Ray Ban and Finlay & Co.
Meghan wore a pair of the latter’s £120 frames for her one of first public appearances with Prince Harry, at the Invictus Games in Toronto, and lo and behold, the Meghan effect struck once again.
The London-based brand saw an 1000 per cent increase in sales, which reportedly concluded in the brand making £20,000 overnight.
The brand’s co-founder David Lochhead told HELLO! previously: ‘Around 75 per cent of all pairs sold online in the last six months were of the Percy style. We’ve had lots of customers coming in-store and asking to try the Percy style on.’
‘We have seen a sales uplift in the past from celebrities such as Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne wearing our Finlay style, but the impact from Meghan wearing these has been on a different scale.’
