Meghan Markle may be a global style icon, but she still knows a royally good bargain when she sees one. In the past, the Duchess of Sussex has shown her support for high-street brands including J.Crew and Zara, and after it was revealed that she was expecting her first child, she turned to ASOS’ extensive range of maternity wear.
For her arrival in New Zealand during her royal tour with husband Prince Harry back in October, pregnant Meghan wore the chic maternity wiggle midi dress underneath a plaid Karen Walker trench coat.
The classic look inspired thousands of mums-to-be to purchase the same £38 number, as it flew out of stock in all sizes. But now our prayers have been answered, because ASOS has listened to customer demand and brought it back.
If you’re not looking for maternity wear, you’ll be pleased to hear that the wiggle midi dress is one of ASOS’ signature designs, and generally comes in a variety of colours and prints to suit the season.
Simply search ‘wiggle dress‘ on the ASOS website and you’ll see the style in pastel colours, florals and even leopard print, as well as Meghan’s classic black (here’s the non-maternity version of the dress for your reference). Keep your eyes peeled on the ‘new in’ section, too, as it’s likely the brand will release more incarnations of the cut in the future.
Meghan’s not the only member of the family to turn to the online retailer’s maternity collection while expecting. During her pregnancy with Princess Charlotte back in 2015, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton donned a polka dot midi dress from the brand for a public appearance at Brookhill Children’s Centre in Woolwich.
Like Meghan, Kate teamed her dress with simple black shoes with a manageable heel, along with simple, delicate jewellery. Perhaps the sisters-in-law have been swapping style notes – we wonder if we’ll see Meghan in Kate’s beloved LK Bennett or Hobbs anytime soon…
