M&S just launched a new pastry hybrid called a ‘yumnut’

Remember when pastry chef extrarordinaire Dominique Ansel changed the world of baked goods forever by creating the cronut? Well, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but it’s possible that Marks & Spencer has just topped that.

Following in the footsteps of the famous hybrid, M&S has launched yumnuts, a sweet, buttery lovechild of its iconic yum yums and a doughnut, and expects them to be just as popular amongst customers.

Making the M&S yumnuts is a real labour of love – the butter-enriched recipe has a minimum 18-hour dough resting time, and a rather staggering 48 laminations to give them their signature layers and fluffy, light and open texture.

After this, they’re glazed and deep fried like a typical doughnut would be, and then flavoured and decorated, with six different versions set to hit the shelves, from raspberry to billionaire’s.

M&S Bakery Product Developer Kirsty Rowley commented on the creation: ‘M&S is renowned for its delicious selection of doughnuts and yum yums – we sell almost 650 miles worth of yum yums each year!

‘The craze for gourmet, “Instagramable” pastries is huge and the new M&S Yumnuts bring this culinary revolution to everyone and are great value, costing from as little as £1 each.’
