Cast your minds back to September, when Marks & Spencer shoppers went wild for a magenta wool-blend midi skirt in a flattering A-line cut. As with many of the brand’s sell-outs, it moved fast – but if you missed out on that little number, then listen up, because fashion insiders say that the next M&S skirt to cause a stir has just arrived.
Meet the Colour Block Satin Pleated Midi Skirt, which, like its predecessor, retails for just £39.50. It’s available in two jewel-toned colours – a warm plum, and a rich navy – and although the glossy fabric might make you think it’s only for evenings, M&S’ models prove that this is a garment that can definitely be dressed up or down.
The skirt was first tipped as a hot ticket for A/W 18 by former Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman, who said that the navy option was one of her top picks from the brand’s new collection, which she reviewed for Mail Online.
‘This skirt is my favourite. I know pleated skirts were last autumn’s success story, but why shouldn’t we repeat them this year?’ she wrote about the skirt at the time.
‘The metallic element and the velvet lift it out of the ordinary. I would wear this with a huge sweater and boots, but it also works well with heels.’
Most sizes in both colourways are currently available on the Marks & Spencer website, but as we know from past experience, it probably won’t be long until the dreaded ‘out of stock’ marker begins to appear.
Online reviewers who have already hit purchase say that they are ‘thrilled’, with one posting: ‘love the rich colours and very pleased with the weight of the material and the quality.’
So, whether you want to go casual with the skirt, a shirt and sneakers, or fancy dolling it up for your Christmas party, we recommend that you move quickly!
