Marks and Spencer is a comforting staple of the British high street; known for producing classic lines and highly wearable pieces that, for the most part, are universal crowd pleasers. But one item from their new A/W 18 range is seriously dividing opinion among their customers, with some shoppers dubbing it ‘proof that M&S don’t get it right all the time’.
The faux fur snakeskin print block heels (yes, all of those things in one place) made their debut appearance on the M&S Fashion PR Instagram account yesterday, and quickly garnered more than 300 comments from potential purchasers who seemed to either love or hate the footwear.
‘Let your feet do the talking with these statement heels, perfect for pairing with a little black dress or dressing up a simple jeans and blouse look,’ M&S say in the product description for the statement shoes on their website. ‘Featuring a block metallic heel and faux fur trim detailing, these wide fit heels are the perfect finishing touch to any outfit.’
Followers, however, were not all convinced – and for every remark calling the shoes ‘cute’ and ‘fabulous’, there were others that were far less complimentary.
‘Horrible.. Just like the awful fur flip flops girls were wearing in the summer!’ exclaimed one, while another declared: ‘For days when you can’t decide between slippers and erm….good winter footwear…? Gross.’
‘You get glimmers of amazing then you mess it right up. This happens A LOT!’ a third agreed.
The sandals are priced at £39.50, and for those who remain unconvinced, there’s also a slightly more discreet black and gold version.
If you’re in the camp of the shoes being a ‘must-have’, be sure to note that they’re an online exclusive, so you won’t be able to pop into your local store and pick up a pair.
And if you’re in the camp of finding them ‘bloody awful’, rest assured that there are many less controversial options on the site!
