Marks & Spencer is known for many things, from sell-out dresses to comfortable lingerie to an extensive beauty section, but nothing brings the nation together quite like our love of M&S food – a statement which has just been proved by the store’s latest launch.
M&S has been making pies since 1934, but last week, released its Best Ever Steak Pie, made with all butter shortcrust and puff pastry, slow cooked British beef, smoked bacon lardons and caramelised onions – and customer demand has exceeded all possible expectations.
On its first day in stores it had sold out by 3pm, and it’s now become the fastest-selling product that M&S has ever stocked, with 20,000 flying off the shelves in just two days.
As a result, the retailer has gone into overdrive to fulfil demand, with artisan supplier Yorkshire Baker moving into 24-hour production to keep up – and as each pie is handcrafted, that’s a lot of hands on deck.
Matt Dawson, M&S Pie Product Developer said of the pie’s incredible popularity: ‘There’s nothing us Brits like more than a pie in the winter months and at M&S our pies have a very loyal following! I wanted our customers to enjoy the best Steak Pie they’d ever tasted – and for amazing value.
‘It’s everything a pie should be – a simple recipe made with the best quality ingredients and it’s perfectly hand-crafted by an expert team of Yorkshire bakers.’
