Since hairdressers reopened in April, lots of us have been enjoying getting our tresses back to their healthy former selves, touching up long overdue roots or maybe even embracing a post-lockdown hair change.
If you’re someone who’s regularly dyed their hair blonde or had balayage or blonde highlights for a while, you’ll know that when left untreated, dyed blonde hair can turn brassy and yellow, probably not what you originally asked and paid your hairdresser for. So we know exactly how desperate you would have been to get back in the salon and get your locks back to the blonde they deserve to be.
However, now that your hair is looking luscious again, it’s important to maintain your hairdresser’s good work in between appointments to stave off the dreaded brassiness. Which is why L’Oréal’s new launch couldn’t have come at a better time.
Whether you’re a hair dye die-hard or a newbie to the world of colour, you’re going to want to add this mighty little product to your bathroom shelf. From the brand’s bestselling purple range that sells one shampoo every 30 seconds, comes the first mass-market purple brass-banishing hair oil.
L’Oreal’s purple shampoo, conditioner and mask have been bathroom shelf stalwarts for a while now, but this new little guy will do the same job without the need to wash your hair. That’s right, if you’re short on time (or loathe washing your hair), the L’Oréal purple oil a leave-in treatment that is formulated especially for dry, brassy lengths and ends, to neutralise and colour correct hair, combatting those yellow, orange brassy tones without a drop of water.
It can be used as a finishing product at the end of styling or on clean towel dried hair – simply apply the (non-greasy) drops every 2-3 days to revive dry ends, revealing a soft and silky shine and keeping brassiness at bay in between washes. It can be used on it’s own or, for best results, use in conjunction with the L’Oreal Elvive purple shampoo and conditioner or mask.
Nicky Lazou, expert hairstylist and master colourist, says: ‘As a colour professional, I love the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Purple Reviving Oil as a subtle neutraliser between washes. It’s an innovative formulation that lifts brassiness and leaves the hair feeling SO soft but not greasy. I love that it’s a leave in rather than replacing a purple shampoo. I like to just run it through the hair as a finisher to keep the colour looking fresh, it really neutralises the brassiness without making hair feel dry or heavy but instead softer and healthier.’
The new L’Oréal purple oil is already available at retailers including Boots, Superdrug (where it’s currently on sale for £6.43) and lookfantastic.com, and will be available nationwide from 21 June.
