Lidl’s Christmas cheeses include gin-infused Wensleydale and Christmas tree smoked cheddar

Cheddar, Brie and Stilton are all well and good, but if you want to mix up your Christmas cheeseboard with something a little quirkier for 2019, you need to head to your local Lidl.

The budget supermarket has just unveiled a huge range of festive cheeses with some of the weirdest and most wonderful flavour combinations we’ve seen so far.

First up, a selection of Deluxe Premium Truckles (£1.99) which include a smooth, crumbly Wensleydale infused with Lidl’s Hortus gin. The block is also studded with dried fruit for a little extra sweetness in each slice.

Or if gin’s not your thing, you might prefer a nibble of the Christmas Tree Smoked Cheddar, which has been smoked with Nordic pine for a truly festive twist. It’s even been covered in a fitting forest green wax, and is shaped like a fir for added effect.

Either of these unusual combinations would make fine additions to any platter, but for a really cracking centrepiece, you can’t do much better than Camembert. There are two versions of Lidl’s Deluxe Large Baking Camembert (£5.99) this year: savoury Chorizo or Fig, or vegetarian Maple & Pecan.

Simply heat them up and put them in the centre of the table (with bread or crudités for dipping, of course) and then sit back and enjoy the oohs and ahhs from your very appreciative guests.

While you’re in store, you can also pick up another alternative Christmas delight in the form of Lidl’s pigs in blankets pizza, the combination of two of  our favourite foods that we never knew we needed.

With a base of red onions and cranberry sauce as well as a Mediterranean style tomato sauce, topped off with cheese and the crucial bacon-wrapped sausages, it’s another one to add to your to-try list this December.
