Kin by John Lewis x Laura Slater: The fashion collaboration that’s flying off the shelves

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of John Lewis here at YOU magazine, as we’ve seen their own brands and collections grow from strength to strength.

From their budget friendly bridal collection to their authentically L.A brand AND/OR, we can’t get enough. So it was no surprise when we heard from an insider at the brand that their latest collaboration is flying off the shelves.

The exclusive limited edition collaboration with Laura Slater for Kin by John Lewis is the second of the designer’s collaborations with the department store. This season, the 15-piece collection is inspired by a road trip the print designer took to the legendary Palm Springs in California. The modernist architecture, 1950s suburbia and flora and fauna of the desert are depicted in an array of graphic prints in vibrant colours.

The range includes a variety of dresses, t-shirts, skirts, shirts, jackets and trousers, with prices starting from £39 – making it an affordable go-to collection for a statement piece.

Yesterday I went on a bit of a Stories rant. It doesn’t happen very often, but I was – along with thousands of others – horrified by an advert Kim Kardashian had posted to her 111 million followers for appetite suppressant lollies. Thank you to the THOUSANDS of you who responded! It took me four hours to go through all of the DM’s last night – with so many of you sharing really personal stories, your thoughts, or just wanting to say you were equally shocked. So I just wanted to say thanks! And maybe I’ll get my rant on more often! Tonight I’m off out for dinner with one of my oldest friends – you know, the one who’s known you at every single bad hair / boy phase of your life, who you’ve been very, VERY drunk in front of and YET, she still loves you?! I’m wearing my new fave two-piece from my new fave department, Kin at John Lewis. It’s from a limited edition capsule range by designer Laura Slater and looks quite loud on the hanger, but feels surprisingly subtle on! And I have felt so comfy in it today (pockets, slouchy, winning). It’s also had quite a few compliments, including from my children’s teacher this morning AND @bryonygordon – who I basically accosted on the street to tell her how much I admired her and her marathon run! What a woman! CREDITS: Skirt and top, both Kin at John Lewis | Shoes, Marks & Spencer | Hair by @melaniesmithcolour courtesy of @joshwoodcolour #ad @johnlewisretail

With bold and bright patterns spotted at Versace, Marc Jacobs, Peter Pilotto and Gucci SS18 shows, any piece from the collection will earn you major trend points, whilst ensuring you stand out from the crowd. Just remember the ‘less is more’ rule when it comes to accessories.

But if you only buy one thing? Follow in the footsteps of influencer and founder of the-edited.com Erica Davies and make it an easy to wear co-ord. The oversize cuff top (£69) and popper side skirt (£99) are great investment pieces that can be worn together or mixed and matched all summer long.

Erica also Instagrammed wearing the bold Spaced Print Dress last week, teaming it with a basket bag and large gold hoop earrings to add a vintage twist to the otherwise graphically modern dress. It’s sold at the moment, but we have it on good authority that there’s a restock coming soon…
