Judi Love on her very first fashion collection and her confidence kick trick

Clearly not content with just having comedian, actress, TV presenter, Loose Women panellist and Strictly Come Dancing alumni to her name, Judi Love can now add fashion designer to her CV as she launches her first ever fashion collection with Very.

Full of rainbow brights and statement prints, the collection is a true reflection of Judi herself. We’re used to Judi cracking us up with her sharp wit on our television screens, but what does the comedian have to say about her foray into the world of fashion? We caught up with her to find out…

Judi, congratulations on your collection with Very! What does the collection mean to you?

The collection means so much to me, it’s my very first fashion collection and I wanted to create something that appealed to everyone – no matter what their size, shape or age. I want women to feel empowered when they put on the clothes in the collection. I was so involved in the details and especially with the fit, feel and fabric to make sure each piece creates something to make everyone feel confident and sexy, with the Judi Love stamp of personality, colour and vibrancy!

What was most important to you when designing the pieces?

Fit was one of the most important factors to me – I want women to put on my clothes and feel confident within themselves. The colours and patterns are me all over, I wear every single piece of my collection with pride and I feel so comfortable in it.

Which pieces are you going to rock most this summer?

There are too many favourites to name! I love the pink tailored suit for a powerful, strong look but equally I love the plisse co-ord set for a casual yet classy look which is so comfy to wear.

How would you describe your style?

My own style can only be described as completely Judi Love! I love colour, bold prints and patterns and making a statement – I don’t think your own style needs to be just one look. Your style could be dressed up in a power suit one day and relaxing in the nearest jeans and a T-shirt the next, it should be however you feel from day to day.

If you’re getting ready for a night out in a hurry, what’s your go-to look?

A stunning dress, with plenty of pattern or splashes of colour is my go-to look. I like to mix it up sometimes and use clashing block colours – pink clashing against blue, prints in lots of colours or a pop of vibrant colour against an all-black blazer is always a good look.

If you’re feeling a bit low, do you gravitate towards certain outfits for a bit of a confidence kick?

I don’t gravitate towards an outfit for a confidence boost – I look at myself in the mirror and make myself feel confident in whatever I’m wearing. My advice for boosting confidence is looking at yourself in the mirror and make yourself appreciate what you have – knowing that someone else would love to have what you have so you’ve got to go and make the most of it.

What has being on TV and around stylists taught you about fashion?

The stylists I work with at Loose Women and all other projects I’ve worked on are fantastic – being around people with such an eye for detail and curating a certain look was definitely good food for thought when curating my Very collection. Knowing how to construct looks and which colours work and fit with each pattern is definitely an art.

You looked incredible at the BAFTAs recently! How did you come to decide on your final look?

Over the years I have learnt what clothes fit my shape so that was my starting point, sprinkled with a bit of panic, wanting it to look how I imagined because it is the BAFTAs and I wanted to look glamorous and unique. I knew I wanted all black and something see-through with jewels. I loved my dress and look forward to getting creative again for next year.

We’re loving you on the current series of Channel 4’s Taskmaster at the moment. What was the most bizarre situation you found yourself in while filming?

I don’t know where to start. There were so many moments, from searching for a duck, trying not to dribble, creating a picture from my phone and making a cocktail in the strangest way ever.

What else have you got in the pipeline soon?

I’ve got lots of exciting things coming up! Noughts + Crosses has been an amazing project and I’d never say no to Hollywood! Next week I’m hosting a Live Shopping Event with Very for people to shop my new collection, putting my presenting skills to good use so maybe something along those lines…
