Swimwear has a reputation for being one of the most difficult staples to shop for on the high street – but according to fashion insiders, John Lewis & Partners’ new drop is all hits, no misses.
Whether you favour a swimsuit, bikini, tankini or high-waisted fit, the department store has catered for your needs, with one of the biggest own-brand offerings we’ve seen.
The collection is trend-led, using contrasting colour blocking, classic prints like stripes and polkadots and standout details like tie-sides and ruching, but it’s a case of both style and substance, still carrying the quality that the John Lewis name is known for.
According to the Daily Mail, inspiration for the range has been drawn from lingerie expertise to ensure a flattering fit, with a selection of control options and concealed support from side-boning and heavy-duty linings.
‘We’ve used light, medium and firm support linings to offer a range of control options,’ Hayley Wheatley, the designer behind the range, told the paper.
‘You’ll find hidden construction within our smoother pieces. For example, the Tropicana styles have tailored seaming and full underwiring and padded support concealed on the inside.’
The dress size range doesn’t go beyond John Lewis’s usual 8-18, but tops do go up to a double FF, which isn’t always a given on the high-street, and there’s plenty of adjustable straps and belts to ensure each piece can be tailored to your specific measurements.
And with prices starting from £16 for a pair of bikini bottoms, you’ll be hard pressed to find swimwear of this standard at a comparable cost elsewhere.
Earlier this year, John Lewis released a statement that revealed that while overall numbers were down, own-brand swimwear had seen an sales increase of 19 per cent. After seeing this year’s launch, we can’t imagine it not rising even higher.
The only question now is which piece from the 130-strong collection to shop first.
