We don’t know about you, but when we’re working from home, we’re certainly not going to bother with shoes. We’d much rather slide our feet into something soft and cosy, and absolutely nothing with a heel – and from the looks of recent sales figures from John Lewis & Partners, it would appear that most of the nation agrees.
Since new lockdown restrictions began almost three weeks ago, sales of one particular style of slippers has risen to double its usual rate, according to Woman & Home. But interestingly, shoppers are opting for designs that aren’t just comfortable, they’re also rather chic – certainly stylish enough for leaving the house to take out the bins, or even your daily exercise, if you’re not wandering too far from home.
We’re talking about slider slippers, the softer, sheepskin-lined version of your usual slip-on sandals. With sturdy bases and snug uppers, they’re the perfect footwear to bridge the gap between our new mostly indoor lifestyles, keeping your toes toasty while also serving a practical purpose if you do want to potter around the garden, or stand on your front porch to clap for the NHS (8pm, every Thursday, people).
Amongst John Lewis’s online bestsellers, there are currently four equally fab pairs, with something to suit all wardrobes. Pop them on with your pyjamas, team them with your favourite loungewear, or make them your secret weapon under a floaty maxi or tailored trousers for a fancier take on at-home dressing.
When you’re on a Zoom call or hanging out with the family on FaceTime, no one can see your feet – but when you’re wearing slippers this good, you might decide to show them anyway…
