Sales of these 5 products have soared since the lockdown roadmap was released

Last Monday, Boris Johnson laid out his plans for easing lockdown restrictions over the next few weeks. While many of us rushed to book salon appointments on Treatwell for the weeks after April 12th and some hedged their bets by booking a hotel for post-May 17th, John Lewis saw an immediate uplift in sales of makeup products.

John Lewis revealed that lipstick sales are up 15 per cent, mascara up 21 per cent, foundation up 8 per cent and bronzer up a whopping 66 per cent as people prepare to go out again over the coming weeks.

Are there any particular makeup products that have seen an uplift since the announcement?

Speaking with Laurie Cilberto, John Lewis’s Makeup Buyer, about our changing makeup habits she said, ‘With life resuming after lockdown, we expect to see the minimal complexion trend continue, but with bright colour pops to revive and refresh the look. A bolder, more daring lip will be a popular choice to enhance the barely-there face.

MAC Lipstick in shade Tropic Tonic is a great summer shade that will add a playful touch to a post-lockdown makeup look. Lift the look with a warm illuminating highlighter such as the Bobbi Brown Highlighter in Afternoon Glow‘.

And what does Laurie expect to see from our makeup as we return to normal life? She said, ‘We will see cosmetic bags contain hardworking essentials: a light base of tinted moisturiser, lip balm, tint or hard-working product that stays on throughout the day, a glow-giving cheek product and lengthening, natural-look mascara.

As we start to venture out to pubs and restaurants again, more daring colour flashes will compliment a natural complexion. Whether it is coral or pink tone lipsticks, or a warm bronzer such as Nars Laguna, a few personalised additions to our makeup bag will make it easy to bring the fun and expression back into our makeup routines’.

Laurie also predicts the pristine Insta-brow will be replaced by a fluffier, bushier look: ‘Having seen strong sales since launch, we are backing Benefit Brow Microfiling Pen – which mimics natural hair growth to create the illusion of full, natural brows – to be a big seller for 2021′.

Another bestseller for John Lewis is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, a glow-enhancing highlighter that compliments all skin undertones and a product Laurie considers a real pillar on our makeup bags.

While we can’t predict what life will look like post-lockdown then, it seems the nation is keen to embrace it with a full face of (glowy) make-up!
