The rainbow has become a even stronger symbol of hope and courage throughout 2020, after thousands of them were hung in windows across the country during lockdown to thank our incredible NHS. And now for Christmas, John Lewis has decided to extend that message to our Christmas trees with the launch of this year’s rainbow charity bauble.
Not only does the kitsch, pop art-inspired design make an eye-catching addition to the tree, it’s also doing good as well as looking it: 25 per cent of its £8 purchase price will be donated to NHS Charities Together, supporting NHS staff and volunteers caring for Covid-19 patients.
‘We are so excited to announce that our Charity Rainbow bauble is back!’ the brand wrote on its Instagram account to announce the arrival of the decoration for 2020. ‘The bauble will be available @johnlewisandpartners and @waitroseandpartners from the 2nd November and 25 per cent of the retail price will be donated to NHS Charities Together.’
The bauble has quickly captured the imagination of customers: ‘This is brilliant!!! Will need one of these for the tree!!! Looks gorgeous and love that it’s giving back to our amazing NHS,’ said one customer on the post, while another posted: ‘Love these 🌈🌈🌈.’
Reviewers on the John Lewis website are equally enthusiastic, with one writing that the piece is ‘so apt for this year.’
‘Love these little rainbows. A little larger than I expected, but nevertheless just right to mark Covid-19 2020,’ they continued. ‘Rainbows were everywhere supporting our amazing NHS. It’s only right I bought a couple to remember our selfless NHS heroes, on the Christmas tree, every year ahead.’
The though-provoking accessory would also make a lovely gift for friends or loved ones, whether or not you’re able to see them in person to mark the occasion.
If you want to get your hands on one yourself, you can head to johnlewis.com or visit a store in person now, or head to Waitrose next month when they’ll be made available from 2nd November.
