Last November, John Lewis & Partners announced a major designer collaboration that got the fashion world very excited, even though it wouldn’t drop until 2020.
The brand JL had brought on board? Mother of Pearl, the sustainable label that’s known for its stunning array of classic yet contemporary pieces that don’t cost the earth, in any sense of the saying. And now, after five long months of waiting, the (stunning) collection has finally landed.
Already stocked through sites like Net-A-Porter and in high-end shops like Harrods, the John Lewis partnership marks the first time Mother of Pearl’s designs will be available to buy on the British high street.
From fabric sourcing to manufacturing, the brands have worked together to ‘navigate the complex fashion industry supply chains and to drive positive change’ – making this the most sustainable offering John Lewis has ever created. All fabrics used in the collection are either Tencel (fibres derives from renewable wood sources) or 100 per cent organic cotton. And prices start from just £59, for investment buys that are built to last.
Jo Bennett, Head of Buying at John Lewis & Partners, says of the collaboration: ‘We are so proud of this collection, we truly believe there is nothing like this available for women on the high street right now.
‘The partnership felt like a natural fit, both of our brands share similar values and ideals. Working alongside [Mother of Pearl creative director] Amy Powney and her team, listening to their expertise and learning from their sustainable knowledge has been so important for us and we are looking forward to sharing all of this with our customers at launch. All of the pieces of the collection are designed to be loved and cherished – they really are forever pieces.’
Amy herself echoes: ‘The opportunity to introduce a fashion lead, sustainably produced collection nationwide is something I am very proud to be part of. Making beautiful pieces for the high street with the most sustainable fabrics and production is not an easy task, but working with the John Lewis & Partners team has made this a reality.
‘I truly believe collaboration and joining forces is key to making long-lasting change, John Lewis are a company committed to sustainability, making them a perfect partner for Mother of Pearl’s first high-street collection.’
