She stole the show on hit BBC One drama Killing Eve this autumn and became our favourite on-screen villain while she was at it. Now, Jodie Comer has been tipped to become a contestant on next year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. Could it be true?
Rumour has it Comer, who plays ruthless assassin Villanelle in the gritty crime drama, is set to be showing off some killer moves on the dance floor for the 2019 instalment of Strictly.
Speculations were sparked when the Liverpudlian actress, who is a big fan of the show, was spotted in the crowd of one of this season’s shows back in November alongside her mum. Speaking to The Sun recently, she admitted that she had been approached by Strictly Come Dancing bosses, saying: ‘They were like, “Maybe next year, Jodie … ?”‘
She continued: ‘I was like, “Mmm, no, I don’t think so!” I’d embarrass myself, definitely!’
Just this month, documentary maker Stacey Dooley was crowned the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2018, while Comer just wrapped the filming of the Killing Eve season two which is set to air in 2019.
The upcoming new episodes were filmed across London, Paris and Amsterdam and while the creator’s have remained very tight lipped about the plot, we can expect an even more action packed season as the show picks up where it left off – with Villanelle on the run after being stabbed in the by nemisis Agent Eve, played by Sandra Oh.
If Comer does end up on the Strictly line-up, she’ll be the second confirmed contestant for 2019. Earlier this month, radio DJ Chris Evans broke the usual protocol, where the cast is confirmed in the summer, to reveal that he’d already signed up for the show.
‘Everyone puts it off and tries and keep it a secret. No, announce now. We’re doing it now,’ he explained, adding that he’d agreed to take part in the competition because ‘my wife would like to go every week’.
