Don’t you just love it when a famous face shares a beauty tip that you can copy without spending a fortune? Case in point: Jessica Alba, who just revealed the secret behind her long lashes that you can try at home for free.
Sharing her go-to ‘no make-up make-up look’ in a video with British Vogue, the actress and entrepreneur explained how she uses the wand of her mascara in a unique way to achieve a fluttery finish.
At the beginning of the process, the star curls her lashes, and then delves into the actual application of the product. ‘I always use primer, and I like to just blink,’ she demonstrates, closing her eyes onto the brush to pick up the product, rather than wiggling it upwards with her hands. ‘It gets the product all the way from the base of the lash to the ends.’
Jessica uses her own brand Honest’s 2-in-1 Extreme Length Mascara and Primer, which sadly for UK fans, doesn’t ship to our shores just yet. However, there are plenty of affordable mascaras here that offer the same double-ended primer and mascara combo – try L’Oreal’s Double Extension Mascara in Carbon Black (£8.35), or Collection’s Volumax Mascara & Eyelash Primer in Ultra Black (£5.99).
Alternatively, you can always use Jessica’s method with your existing mascara – simply blink down when you apply instead of letting your hand do all the work, and you should see instant improved results.
‘Mascara is the most important because at the end of the day when you’re talking to people, they’re looking at your eyes,’ Jessica adds in the five-minute film. ‘So I think this is where you should spend a good amount of time, even if you don’t spend too much time on anything else.’
She also detailed the best trick for applying concealer that she’s picked up from her own make-up artist – using her fingers instead of a brush. ‘Your finger is warm, so it sets it right in to the skin,’ she says. Well, if it’s good enough for the A-list…
