For fans of ITV’s hit morning shows This Morning, Lorraine and Good Morning Britain, this really will sound like a Christmas miracle: for the first time ever, all three TV shows are planned to broadcast live on Christmas Day morning this year.
2020 has brought us more than our fair share of bad news, so this was just what we wanted to hear, all our favourite TV personalities right there with us on Christmas Day morning.
Starting from 7am, Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid will kick things off with Good Morning Britain, where the two presenters will be celebrating the unexpected heroes of 2020, such as Captain Tom, who rose to fame after raising millions of pounds for charity by walking 100 laps of his garden during lockdown, and the thousands of NHS staff who put their lives on the line every day to help the battle against Covid-19.
At 9am, Lorraine Kelly will grace our screens, interviewing special guests and sharing her holiday beauty and fashion secrets. Then, at 10am she passes the baton to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield as they take to our screens with a very special festive episode of This Morning.
Speaking about the ITV Christmas Day schedule, a source told The Mirror: ‘[These shows] are massive ratings winners for ITV and such an integral part of the brand, it was a no-brainer to let them loose on Xmas Day’.
This Morning co-presenter Holly has shared her excitement at the news: ‘Doing this really is like a Christmas gift in itself!’ Adding, ‘Just the thought of being on the telly during the excitement of Christmas morning with everyone, especially this year, is so special. We are going to have such fun filming this show and I hope viewers will enjoy it just as much as us.’
Holly’s co-host Phil added: ‘What an absolute honour to be in people’s living rooms on Christmas day. We have never done this before, so to be part of another ‘first’ for the show is extra exciting for us.
‘This special two hour show will have plenty for the whole family to enjoy throughout the morning… and I’m sure Holly and I will get to enjoy a festive tipple too!’ We hope you do too, Phil!
Also excited to join the ITV Christmas Day schedule for the first time, Lorraine commented: ‘I’m so looking forward to celebrating Christmas with our brilliant viewers. It’s been a tough year and we need some fun and a chance to celebrate.’
So whatever the 25 December looks like this year for each of us, we know we can count on our favourite faces to be entertaining us from our telly boxes. It might be a merry Christmas, after all…
