You’ll agree when we say that Hugh Grant is a rom-com king. From Notting Hill and Bridget Jones’ Diaries, to Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral, his body of work is impressive to say the least. But what if you had to pick your favourite Hugh Grant role of all time? Better yet, what if he had to pick?
Well, that is exactly what just happened, as Hugh Grant has revealed what he thinks was his best role in a film of all time, and we’ll let you decide whether you agree with him or not.
According to the 58-year-old actor, Paddington 2– a children’s movie featuring a CGI bear – is the the greatest film he has ever starred in.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Grant, who plays villain Phoenix Buchanan in the film he has described as the ‘best film I’ve ever been in’, explained: ‘I was presenting I think at the Golden Globes, and they do that thing when you walk out, and they say, “From the forthcoming Paddington 2, Hugh Grant.” And someone showed me Twitter afterwards, and it was… people were full of derision.’
He continued: ‘”Christ, has it come to that. Poor old Hugh. Paddington 2. Sequel to a kids film.” It’s particularly annoying in the case of Paddington 2, because I genuinely believe it may be the best film I’ve ever been in.’
He could be right. Paddington 2, which sees the famous bear in jail for a crime he did not commit not only has a 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes but it was nominated for Best British Film at the Baftas and saw Grant nominated for Best Actor In A Supporting Role.
That being said, with decades of beloved on-screen character portrayals under his belt, who can really pick one favourite? Plus, there is still time to add another outstanding role into the mix as Grant is currently filming for his upcoming HBO series The Undoing, in which he stars in alongside Nicole Kidman.
