If there was ever a time to add a sparkling showstopper to your wardrobe, it’s December – a truth that H&M customers seem to have taken particularly to heart this year. The brand’s sequin skirt has flown out of stores and out of stock in a mere matter of days, and it’s not hard to see why.
The embellished midi ticks all of our major boxes when it comes to party wear – it’s purse-friendly, wonderfully glitzy, and crucially, high-waisted enough that you can eat your fill of turkey and mince pies and still have space for canapés. Add that to the fact its currently the star of H&M’s festive ad campaign, and you’ll get more than a subtle hint as to why it’s proved just so popular.
What’s more, the skirt also comes in with the option of full-on glamour thanks to H&M’s perfectly matched coordinating item: a £19.99 high-collared sequinned top in the same silver shimmer, which can be tucked into the skirt’s waistband for top-to-toe razzle dazzle. Buy both for a combined total of £55, and you can mix and match for Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and beyond.
If you love the piece, the only slight spanner in the works is that everyone else does too – meaning that the H&M website is only showing a size 4 as available to shop. Local branches may still have some on the rails, but considering its success on the internet, we don’t imagine they’ll be around for long either.
However, if you’ve missed out on the original silver, all is not entirely lost. There’s also a lesser-known but still equally festive forest green colourway in the same universally wearable shape, and at the time of writing, all sizes are on offer.
Take inspiration from H&M’s styling and add a ribbed knit and on-trend padded headband, and you’ll have Christmas chic well and truly nailed.
